The Hampton Majestic is located on Monroe Street in one of the most prestigious areas of the city – Chicago’s famed loop business district. You won’t find any other Chicago hotels historic as this one. In the early 20 th century, the space that now occupies the hotel was once the home of the Newport Hotel and Gambling House. After the gambling house was shut down, the well-known architect Edward Krause, set out to build the four-story Majestic Office Building and Theatre. This interesting and uniquely designed building included office tenants such as the State Attorney, the famed department store Lord and Taylor sales office, and Edward Krause himself. Below the offices, the Theatre hosted a range of Vaudeville shows and acts including Harry Houdini. Today, the Theatre still puts on amazing Broadway shows such as Spamalot, Rent, and Movin’ Out.
